Some things we get asked... alot

Printing sizes, costs, specs can seem like a minefield at time. Below are some notes and FAQ’s that can hopefully help with your enquiry. If not simply give us a call

What File types do you accept?

We prefer to receive print ready formats such as PDF, JPEG and TIFF. Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and Powerpoint files should be converted to PDF format.

Find our artwork templates here
How should I send my files?

You can email any files under 20mb to If they are over 20MB please send via any file transfer site such as: or Dropbox. Alternatively, you can copy files onto a usb drive and bring it into us.

What is bleed?

Bleed is the area between the trim marks and the rest of the paper. Continuing the design over the trim marks guarantees there will be no white margins after trimming. Bleed should usually be at least 3mm.

What is the difference between CMYK and RGB?

CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black – the inks our printers mix together to make colours on your printed job.
RGB stand for Red, Green and Blue – the colour of light a computer screen mixes to make colours on your screen.

What is dpi or resolution?

Raster graphics such as TIF and JPEG files must have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) Images with a resolution of less than 300 dpi will reproduce poorly via print – images could look fuzzy and pixilated.

Do I have to pay VAT?

Print products have varying applications of VAT. Some are zero-rated, for example, short term promotional products like flyers. And some have the full 20% applied. You can find out more about VAT print rules and regulations from HM Revenue & Customs.

What are the standard paper sizes?

From small to large:
A6 105mm x 148mm
A5 148mm x 210mm
A4 210mm x 297mm
A3 297mm x 420mm
A2 420mm x 594mm
A1 594mm x 841mm
A0 841mm x 1189mm

Do you check spelling and grammar before printing?

No, we won’t check your artwork for spelling or grammar mistakes. It is very important that you check all information is correct before you place your order. Good practise is to ask a ‘neutral’ person, someone who hasn’t had input, to spellcheck your work.

What are your methods of payment?

We take cash, all major credit cards in person and online via secure Worldpay pay-by-link. We encourage remote customers to pay online. A deposit for some of our services may be requested.
